The term bracelet is from the Latin brachile meaning of the arm.

The name tennis bracelet was inspired by Chris Evert when her bracelet broke during a match and the    game was interrupted so that she could recover the pieces.

Taken in plural bracelets is often used as slang for handcuffs, but we don't sell those here ;)
